Frequently Asked
Got a question? We've got answers. Scroll down to view the most frequently asked questions on our reformulation.
1. Which products are changing?
We’re updating the sugar content in the majority of our Fruit Sodas and Classic Mixers. Our tonics will stay the same, as will our Classic Soda and our newer Fruit Sodas which were formulated with sugar reduction in mind from the outset. These include our Low Sugar Grapefruit, Low Sugar Lime and Charred Pineapple Sodas.
2. Will these still taste the same?
Flavour is always our first priority. We’ve tailored the sugar content in each drink to support and enhance flavour, not strip it away. You might notice a subtle difference: the drinks are now lighter on the palate, with a slightly brighter profile that makes them more sessionable. But the core flavours remain true to what you know.
3. Are these drinks sugar-free?
No - and intentionally so. We’re reducing sugar, not removing it. Each soda now contains less excess sugar, but enough to carry the flavour naturally. We’re not using artificial or stevia-based sweeteners.
4. Are you using any artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes?
No. We haven’t added any artificial sweeteners like aspartame, stevia, erythritol, or anything similar. We’ve simply adjusted the sugar content to lower levels - using sugar naturally, in a way that supports flavour without excess.
5. How will I know which ones are new?
Reformulated drinks will feature a new badge on the label, specifying calories per serve. It’s a small but clear update to help you (and your customers) easily spot the change.
6. When is this happening?
We’re rolling this out gradually over the next six months, with different SKUs updating at different times. It depends on production schedules and sell-through rates, so it won’t be all at once.
7. Will older versions still be in the market?
Yes - you might continue to see original formulations in trade and retail while current stock clears. Both versions are safe, shelf-stable, and delicious.
8. Why make this change now?
When we launched our sodas 14 years ago, the landscape was different. But today, the Australian palate has shifted. People are more mindful of sugar, and we want to reflect that shift without compromising on flavour.
9. Do I need to do anything differently when ordering?
Nope. Orders will transition naturally as we update stock. If you have questions about timing or need clarity on what’s arriving when, just reach out to your CAPI contact.
10. Will pricing change?
No - there are no price changes associated with the reformulation.
11. Will the drinks still perform as mixers?
Absolutely. While reducing sugar was the goal, we also know how important sugar is for carrying flavour, especially in mixed drinks. These sodas have been carefully reformulated with that in mind and - in our opinion - they mix even better than before.
12. Why aren’t your tonics changing?
When it comes to tonics, sugar plays a unique role in balancing bitterness and enhancing botanicals and it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. That’s why we’re not making changes here: they’ve already been fine-tuned to do exactly what they need to.
13. Will your Grapefruit Soda be replaced by Low Sugar Grapefruit?
No - both products will remain. Our Low Sugar Grapefruit is crafted for those seeking a lighter option, with just 2.4g of sugar per 100mL. Our original Grapefruit Soda will still be available, now with a reduced sugar formula (7.3g per 100mL), perfect for classic cocktails and those who prefer a more traditional soda profile.
14. Are the products ‘Low Sugar’?
No. In Australia, a product can only be labelled ‘Low Sugar’ if it contains 2.5g or less of sugar per 100mL, as defined by the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. While we’ve reduced sugar across our range, each product still contains more than 2.5g per 100mL. The exact sugar content varies by product and has been carefully tailored to suit each individual recipe.
